Phonics

At Frodsham Manor House, we strive for all of our children to be fluent, confident readers and apply the sounds taught (through Supersonic Phonic Friends) to all aspects of their learning so they become highly-skilled readers. Supersonic Phonic Friends is a fully systematic phonic approach created by Phonics' expert, Anna Lucas and beautifully designed by artist, Fiona Cameron.

Rhythm and rhyme is a key feature of our phonics curriculum. Please take a look at the ‘Helpful Phrases’ document below. Your child may also mention the phrase ‘Turn, talk and tell’ which is used across school to promote the importance of spoken language.

Our phonics curriculum ensures that the Firm foundations are secure then typically it takes children through The Basics 2 and 3 during Reception, and then onto The Basics 4 in Year 1 and The Higher levels - Choose to use + Switch it throughout Year 1 and 2.

In Year 1 and 2 they are also taught Suze’s spelling rules and patterns.

Mrs McGrath is our lead teacher on the delivery of Phonics and Early Reading.
